"The metaverse is always five to ten years away. And always will be."

Reality Labs Update: $4.2 trillion invested in the future of human computing. That's trillion with a T. More than the GDP of Germany and Brazil combined, with enough left over to buy Australia (which Meta looked into in 2039 โ the Australian government said no; Meta is rebuilding it in VR).
The Meta-Metaverse: A virtual world inside the virtual world. You activate your Quest 37 neural implant, enter the metaverse, walk to your virtual couch, and put on a virtual headset that takes you to a deeper virtual world that simulates the physical world you left behind. Features include grass ("a green, ground-covering plant that people used to touch with their bare hands"), the ability to fast-forward through uncomfortable conversations, and a setting to hold your emotional state at "content" indefinitely.
Growth Metrics: 12 โ 400 monthly active users in one quarter. That's 33x growth. Projected forward: 433 million users by Q3 next year. More users than atoms in the observable universe by 2050. That's math.
$4.2TReality Labs cumulative investment. Delivered with zero irony.
The Timeline: Five to ten years. In 2021, the metaverse was five to ten years away. In 2030, five to ten years away. In 2040, five to ten years away. In 2047, the meta-metaverse is five to ten years away from full consumer adoption. The verge is the most exciting place to be.
Mark Says Hi: Mark Zuckerberg uploaded his consciousness into the metaverse in 2041. He's now a 400-foot-tall digital avatar hovering above Meta's floating campus (powered by server heat, LEED Platinum certified). He communicates through algorithmic press releases. His latest: "The metaverse is the future. Also, I am the metaverse. Also, buy MetaJuice."
Boz's Blog of the Future
We've spent four point two trillion dollars building a map. And the map is so detailed now โ so rich, so immersive โ that it has become the territory. We don't need the territory anymore. The map is better. The map has a skip button.
New principle: The map IS the territory. And the territory is a map of another map. And somewhere, underneath all the maps, there was a real place. But we paved over it in 2038 to build a data center.
And I think that's beautiful.

Side effects may include: mild electromagnetic sensitivity, recurring dreams about Mark Zuckerberg, and an irresistible urge to purchase MetaJuice. Ask your MetaCare provider if MetaBrain is right for you. (It is. You don't have a choice.)
And by MetaDoubt โ the AI that generates corporate uncertainty for profit. Because the only thing more valuable than certainty is the absence of it.
